About the Artist

Jonathan Lukhanyo Hlathi, known by his stage name Jayelkay Nokhala, is a rising artist from Cape Town, South Africa, with roots in Lady Frere, Eastern Cape. His musical journey began in 2014 when a friend, Blessmentis, believed in his talent and introduced him to studio recording. Initially, Jayelkay Nokhala shared his music through Bluetooth, but his big break came in 2020 with the release of his single "CAKE" on SoundCloud, produced by Macana and Smsthekid. This was followed by "NDENZA KAKHULU" ft. Blacco, produced by Elvisliq, which gained significant attention and changed the course of his career. Jayelkay Nokhala has collaborated with notable artists such as Blaccomasscott, Anele Matshoba, Surfics, Loonic, Smsthekid, Receive, and Lxyee Traps. In 2023, he released his debut EP "BOOK OF SONGS," produced by Smsthekid, which paved the way for his single "U_MANDELA." This success led to him being featured as the magazine art cover in THE PUDDING magazine and performing at esteemed events like Spaza and Newwave. With a growing presence in Cape Town's music scene, Jayelkay Nokhala has shared stages with numerous local artists. His latest single, "PEACE," produced by Smsthekid, is now available. Aspirations Within the next five years, Jayelkay Nokhala aims to inspire youth globally, reflecting on his experiences growing up in the kasi (township) and the power of music to transcend boundaries.
