We made a few [songs]. I have one on my project also — the one that’s on Spotify,”
Two standout artists from the 2022 Sportscene Put Me On competition, Kenji Tmz and Denzel The Artist, have finally linked up on an unreleased track titled “Same Old Thing.” While Denzel took the crown that year, Kenji has continued to carve out his own lane — staying true to his Soweto-on-Sea roots and delivering work that reflects both his environment and evolution.

In a conversation with Kenji, he confirmed that “Same Old Thing” was recorded about a year after the two met during the competition. “We made a few [songs]. I have one on my project also — the one that’s on Spotify,” he shared. This track, however, marks a shift — a direct, no-frills critique of the oversaturated state of the game.
The chorus sets the tone:
Topics where they really getting sloppy Give a f** about how you drop it* It’s the same old thing (same old thing) And I know that you're inspired now you acting like a spy and you copy, copy It’s the same old thing (same old thing) It’s the same old thing (same old thing) It’s the same old thing (same old thing) All these n**s drop it, drop it It’s the same old thing (same old thing) It’s the same old thing (same old thing) It’s the same old thing (same old thing)

From the lyrics alone, it’s clear the song is a response to repetition, lack of originality, and the trend-hopping that’s become commonplace. For Kenji, who’s been building steadily from the underground with a growing catalogue and clean visuals like the upcoming “Makwedin” video, this track is another sharp entry into his journey.
Denzel, who has remained active since his Put Me On win, continues to showcase his versatility. His latest single, “Vibe”, released on March 14, 2025, under GMF Records, is a testament to his evolving artistry. You can watch the music video here: https://youtu.be/TurJCvCaJbc.
“Same Old Thing” may still be unreleased, but its message is already loud and clear.
